The mission of our Community Advisory Boards (CABs) are to:

  • Expand targeted approaches to increase scientific literacy
  • Infuse cultural literacy into the process of protocol development
  • Mobilize community advisory boards to conduct peer outreach and training

CAB activities include:

  • Cultural competency training in gender diversity, ethics, and training researchers from the community point of view
  • Increasing Community Awareness of HIV/AIDS through community education events
  • Increasing scientific literacy of community and CAB members
  • Mentor outreach and training
  • Strengthening relationships with community stakeholders through development of education sessions and activities
  • Reduction of research misconceoptions (ex. MSM-related human rights issues)
  • Representing the community in scientific conferences and community/organizational leadership meetings

Meeting times
The CABs of each site meet once per month, or every other month, depending on the site. Each CAB has one representative, called the Executive CAB member; this person attends the quarterly-based Executive CAB meetings, which is where Executive CAB members can directly talk to the leaders of our clinical trials unit to discuss community needs and opportunities.
